Link Vault

The ideal solution for a free and effective online advertising campaign.

Link Vault is made up of a large group of quality websites. Each new member must bring to the network at least one high quality website and make available a few links slots for existing members. In return you receive 'Vaultage' which you use to receive links from the other members websites.

Each website added to the network will be vetted by a person before any links are placed to ensure it meets our strict quality guidelines. Should you wish to use your Vaultage quota to provide text link adverts to a website not in the system, then this website will also need to pass the vetting.

Link Vault is completely free and the set up is straightforward, flexible and easily customized. All the links are static, unless you delete them or the site is removed. You also have full control over the number of text links you receive.

About The Link Vault

The Link Vault is a completely free text-link advertising network. The way it works is simple, and you can give and receive as many or as few links as you choose. All the websites in our network are manually checked to ensure the content is real and the theme is not offensive, illegal or adult.

You can give or receive general text adverts, or you can set a preference to categorise your website so your links are based around a certain theme 'Sport' for example. With smaller categories we may need to use general links as well to give you your complete quota.

What makes Link Vault unique is that although the links are dynamically generated, they are static and once we have allocated your links we keep these links permanent. The only time we might need to change a link (apart from if you remove it) is if 'the site' your link is on gets removed from the network. In this case your link would then be reassigned to a similar website. Accounts which loose a substantial amount of the Vaultage, will loose links in the order of youngest first. New members are asked if they are unsure how many links to display they should opt for the lower number to start with as it is better to add more new links, than remove old ones.

The links you display are in plain html (using the standard ‘a href’ tag) they are added to your website using a server side script (asp or php). The format of these links can be customised in the set up so you can choose your link separator and/or your css style. Likewise the links you receive from the network are in plain html, with the link text of your choice.

Variety is the spice of life so they say, and this is true with the Link Vault too. So for each new website you add to the network to host adverts on, that gets approved, will give you an extra set of 30 return links in your account to use, each with the standard three variations of link text. The total amount of links you receive from other members to your set of link adverts is based on your Vaultage.

The set up is easy, with forum support for anyone who does get stuck or has any special requirements. For more information about the Link Vault please read the frequently asked questions, or if you have a question not answered in the FAQ please go to the support forum.

Link Vault Frequently Asked Questions

General questions about Link Vault, what it does and how it works

1# What is the purpose behind the Link Vault network?
Gathering quality, permanent links and adverts to your website can be very tiresome and the cost of buying such adverts soon builds up. By joining Link Vault you allocate a certain number of advert / link spaces on your website for Link Vault to place links, and in return Link Vault’s other members display your adverts and links. This is an automated service that costs you nothing.

2# Can anyone use the Link Vault?
Anyone can join Link Vault, providing they have a good quality website to add to the network and make adverts / link spaces available on part or all of the website.

3# Is Link Vault theme or category based?
Each website and link added to Link Vault must select a category, and during the allocation process Link Vaults preference is to match like themes, although if there are not enough sites in a certain category your ad quota will be made up of other general links. As the network grows so will the percentage of category based link allocations.

4# How is my Vaultage calculated?
Your Vaultage is an amount we work out for you based on a number of factors, mainly how authoritive your website is, how many pages are recognised by search engines and how many link spaces you make available to the network.

5# How can I be sure I wont be linking to Spam or Porn?
Rest assure all the websites, and all the pages adverts point to get checked by a real person before Link Vault accepts them. Each website is carefully checked to ensure it meets all our guidelines. To question a site or link in the network please contact approvals (at) link-vault.com

Questions about adding a site to Link Vault and site approvals and validation

6# How long does it take for a new site in my account to be approved?
Most new sites are approved straight away if they are added during our working day. At other times it can be anything up to 24 hours. If there is a problem with the site (i.e. it doesn’t meet our guidelines, or isn’t accessible) it can take longer.

7# I just signed up for Link Vault with my site but I don’t have much Vaultage?
Your Vaultage goes up with time, so do not expect to see your total amount straight away. This is because we only log and rate your pages as they contact our server, and this only happens when the pages are loaded. Only once all your pages are found will you see your total Vaultage.

8# I have a huge site, although I don’t have much Vaultage, why?
Vaultage is worked out on a page by page basis, and only pages which Link Vault marks as valuable are stored in our database, and these will be the only pages you receive Vaultage for.

9# Does my site need Page Rank?
Your site doesn’t need to have Page Rank, but it does need to be recognised by the major search engines to ensure no banned or bad neighbourhood sites enter the network.

10# How do I test to see if my site is set-up correctly?
In your account settings you will see a list of your site(s). By clicking on test this will turn on test mode and display ‘test links’ where the Link Vault links should appear. Once you are happy the links are displaying correctly you can go back to your account page and turn test mode off.

11# Test mode works, but I when I turn it off no links display?
Links are assigned to new sites gradually, so you will not see links on your site straight away. This is normal. If test mode works you can be 99.9% certain your site is set up correctly.

Questions about the adverts I will receive from Link Vault network

12# Are the links coded in plain HTML or is there some sort of JavaScript involved?
The links are added to your web page using a simple asp / php file, which puts the text links on to the page in the normal HTML format using the ‘a href’ tag. You can easily customise the look and layout of the adverts you display.

13# How many links will I receive?
The amount of links you will receive depends on your ‘Vaultage’. The higher your Vaultage the more links you will receive.

14# How many different links will I receive by joining the network?
The amount of links depends on your overall Vaultage although you can divide your Vaultage between 30 different URLs, each URL has the option for up to 3 variations of link text. If you add another site to your account you will receive another 30 URL options each with the standard 3 link text variations.

15# Can I point my links to any site or just ones I host the adverts on?
You can point your adverts / links to any page providing it meets all our guidelines. They do not have to be sites you are hosting adverts on. For instance I could add site 1 to Link Vault to host links, and my adverts could point to pages on site 2 and 3.

16# Can I change the link text I want people to use for linking to me?
Once links are approved you can not change the link text’s, although you can adjust the proportion each link uses. This does not affect your links already placed.

17# How often can I change my links?
Once your links have been activated on other websites you can not change either the URL or the link text. This is a precaution to protect against anyone changing there website after the link has been approved. You can however change the Vaultage portion, max links etc. If you do need to change the URL or the link text, the only way you can do this is by deleting the link and adding a new one.

18# How is it possible to make all the links permanent?
In a nutshell each link stays permanent until you decide to delete the link, leave the network, or the site your link is placed on leaves the network.

Questions about the Link Vault referral system NEW

19# Why do we have a referral system?
Referring new people to Link Vault helps the network grow. The more sites in the network the more advertising slots will be available on a wider variety of sites, this benefits you because a wide range of sites means we can give you more themed links.

20# Are there any other incentives?
For each account (which includes all the sites in this account) we will give you 5% of the Vaultage of the new account you have referred (this is not deducted off them). This lasts for the life time of your and the referred account. If the Vaultage of the referred account goes up (or down) so will your referral bonus.

21# How do you know when I have referred someone?
Every account has its own unique referral link which can be found in the referral details box which is located on your 'account & site settings' page. You can advertise Link vault using this link and if someone clicks on it we give them a cookie so if they sign up anytime within 60 days after you will be counted as their referrer (providing they do not delete the cookie).

22# How do I know if I have referred someone?
In your referral details box we list every site which has been referred by you, together with how much Vaultage bonus they contribute.

23# Where can I find the total number of referrals and total Vaultage bonus?
In the top right of the referral details box on your 'account & site settings' it will say on a green background the total number of referrals, and directly under this in grey it will tell you the total number of referral Vaultage bonus.

Questions about stopping certain advert links appearing on my site NEW

24# Can I refuse to host certain adverts / links on my site?
Yes, you can ban a certain number of domains from appearing on your website.

25# How many domains can I ban?
The total number of domains you can ban depends on what feature package you are using. The free package gives you 10 per site. If you want to ban more than this you would need to subscribe to one of the advanced link vault packages.

26# Are the bans permanent?
Yes, once you have banned a site you can not 'unban' it.
